Liposuction Scars and Removal Methods

Liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure that removes excess fat from the body. There are different techniques used in liposuction, but every technique is performed by making small incisions in your body. In liposuction methods that cut all layers of your skin, a scar will likely be visible for a while.

We are not used to seeing large scars as a result of liposuction treatments. Proficient surgeons know what to do and what to avoid. For this reason, when you undergo liposuction treatment from an expert surgeon, there will be no visible scars.

According to a study, only 1.3% of 600 people who participated in the study and had liposuction had keloid scars on the incision sites. Some people are genetically predisposed to developing keloid scars on their bodies. If you have a history of keloid scars and you are considering liposuction, you should remember that you may also have scarring.

There are some treatments that remove scars, but any of these methods cannot remove a scar completely. Although these treatments can’t remove scars completely, they can reduce the appearance of scarring. We can give some examples of these treatments;

  • Silicon gel and gel sheets. This method has become popular as it is a home treatment method. When you regularly use this method, it will reduce your appearance of scars.
  • Microdermabrasion and chemical peels. With this method used by dermatologists, you can reduce your scars in a dermatologist’s office. Redness may occur as a result of the procedure as the most important side effect.
  • Cryotherapy. Doctors can treat hypertrophic and keloid scars with cryotherapy. This method is simple, quick and also it doesn’t cause a lot of pain or discomfort.
  • Scar removal surgery. This method is the riskiest and the most invasive type of scar removal.
  • Laser therapy. This method one of the outpatient methods used in scar removal. It doesn’t take a long recovery process, but repeated treatments may require.
